Mark has a long culinary background. He attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He studied French Cuisine while in college and earned his associate degree. He was an executive chef at numerous Country Clubs in Ohio, hospitals, and a retirement home. We worked together to create our own catering business called Sauce on the Side catering. We catered weddings, church events, as well as special "Signing with Santa" events for the deaf and hard of hearing community. As for myself, Melissa, I have a background in early child development, elderly care, clinical work in veterinary clinics, and community services such as Cub Scouts. My dream has always been to have my own farm and to be a teacher. I homeschool our 4 children, and we set our own curriculum.
We moved to South Carolina in November 2012 to further Marks career, as well as continue the path to our family dreams. We spent one year in Florence, and four years in Summerville before we moved to Moncks Corner in 2017 where we have our farm now.

One sunny day I stopped in to see if they happened to have any, and wouldn't you know it they had some. I knew about chickens, but didn't know about different breeds of chicken, so I made a hasty decision to bite the bullet and just get some. I bought 3 Olive Eggers, 3 Golden Comets, and 4 bantam chicks. 3 of our Bantams died soon after arriving home, so I went back and got 2 more Golden Comets. That quick decision would change our family's future forever. Click below to read more about how we created our farm...
We decided as a family to try and be as self sufficient as we can. The idea seemed intriguing however it's not a skill you learn overnight, By all means we are still are still a small farm, but we've learned a lot and we still have plenty more learn.
